Commitment

People who are looking for ways to “make money online” are the favourite prospects of most online marketing product-creators and even affiliates. Why? Because they are most likely opportunity seekers. They can be sold on the big dream of finding that magical button that will just make the Internet spew out unlimited amounts of money, no work required.

Just take a quick look at some IM forums and at about 90% of IM-related sales-pages. There’s no shortage of people who are looking for a shortcut.

Most people don’t want to build and run a business. Building a business is something that most people associate with hard work, taking risks, management, support and customer relationship management, more complicated tax forms and other boring, un-sexy stuff. Want to build a business and be “the boss”? No thanks!
How about making some money online? Yes, sign me up for that!

Making money online is non-committal and this is reflected in the sales-messages of many products. Just install some software, push some buttons and watch the money roll in. Get automatic traffic. Never mind that those are actual human beings visiting your website. Never mind that the money you make comes out of other people’s pockets.

The most popular themes in online marketing require no commitment on your part: build a mini-site, fill it with auto-generated content, slap some ads or promotions on it and move on.

Investment Management

So, am I telling you that you should forget about mini-sites and affiliate marketing and either get a job or build a “real”, public business with branding and customer service and all that?

No.

I do recommend getting out of the “make money” mindset and consider the following: start thinking of “making smart investments” as your primary goal. That is, in many ways, what business is about.

Maybe you’re just starting out and the only thing you have to invest is your time. That’s fine. It’s also about making smart investments concerning your time. The question should be: how and where can you invest this time, so that you can start making some income fairly quickly? And then, more importantly: how can you invest that income to scale up your operations?

As stated in the video, I believe in building long-term businesses online and I also believe that chasing quick cash will actually keep you poor, in the long term.

Expanding on what I said in the video, there is perhaps one way to make money that comes a little closer to most people’s “get rich quick” fantasies: Start with something you’re already good at. Maybe there is something among your skill set that can be turned into a product. If you can do that, that might be one of the quickest ways to get started. However, before you have a serious business, you’ll still need to learn all the basics like keyword research, market research, how to build a website, how to promote a website, how to create compelling offers, etc.

Certainly the greatest myth about making money online is that it’s “easy”. Actually, calling it a myth is a bit misleading. In certain ways, online marketing really is easy, but not the “effortless” kind of easy, more the “simple” kind. Much like losing weight and getting in shape is easy, but still really hard, somehow.

Simply Difficult

How many people do you know who want to get in shape? Maybe lose a few pounds? Or put on some muscle? Better stamina and overall fitness, anyone? How about that six-pack? Almost everyone would like to be a bit fitter and a bit better looking than they are. Millions of people are overweight or obese and would love to be slim. Somehow, most of them never reach their goals.

Getting in shape is easy. Don’t believe me? While there are countless books and studies and courses and programs all concerned with losing weight and getting in shape, everything you need to know about this subject can be said in just a few words. Here’s the ultimate secret of how to lose weight and become really fit:

• Eat mainly vegetables and fruit and no junk-food.
• Exercise every day.
• Repeat.

That’s it. Follow these three steps and I guarantee you that you will become slim and trim. See, it’s really not complex or complicated. Sure, the process can be optimized, but I doesn’t need to be. It hardly matters what exercise you do, so long as you do it often and consistently. As for eating: Forget about counting calories and tallying up proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Eat when you’re hungry and eat healthy foods only. Period.

Getting in shape is easy. Understanding the system behind it is easy. But actually sticking to it is hard.

It’s the same with making money online. The basic principles behind it are fairly simple. You can dig deeper and uncover layers upon layers of details about SEO, link-building, optimal landing page design, the psychology of buying and selling and any number of other related subjects. But you don’t have to. Following just a few basic rules you can monetize a very simple website.

• Make a simple website and add an affiliate-link to it.
• Write many relevant articles with links pointing to that site every day.
• Repeat.

This works. I’m not saying there isn’t more to making money online than those three steps. I’m not saying that this (simple article marketing) is the best or the only way to earn money online. What I’m saying is that you don’t need to know more to get started. As you go along, you’ll pick up more info and you’ll refine your techniques, but you have to get going with what you’ve got. What’s missing isn’t the perfect method, the secret technique, the magic keyword. What’s missing is more likely a concentrated and consistent effort.

Before you fall for the seductive promise of “easy money”, remember: It’s simple, but it requires hard work and dedication.

What you will be hard-pressed to find, however, is reliable information on whether these products are any good or not. This is a void that RichQuickReview.com is here to fill.

Things to Come

At the time of this writing, there isn’t much to see on the site yet. It’s only just been launched and every website has to start somewhere (“somewhere” usually being “scratch”). Now, you will soon find my first in-depth review of a get-rich-quick product, more specifically a guide to affiliate marketing. As you can imagine, testing such a product takes quite a bit of time. Remember, I am actually testing the products, not just writing positive reviews in order to promote my own sales of it. This is what separates RichQuickReview.com from countless other sites: They do “reviews” (picture: exaggerated air-quotes), I do reviews.

The reason I am doing this is because I think it is dearly needed. Offering affiliate deals is tremendously good for an individual product, but in the long term, it’s bad for the overall market. Because every get-rich-quick program offers affiliate deals, there are lots of eager marketers buzzing all over the place, trying to sell these programs by any means possible. This is great for the sales of the individual products, because dozens or even hundreds of affiliate marketers will inevitably generate more sales than the author of the program ever could on his own. But it is bad for the market as a whole because so many people have a vested interest in the products that nobody criticizes them. Why should you write about how bad a product is on your blog, for instance, if you can use the same space to write a few lines of praise, plug in an affiliate link and make some money?

Welcome to the Swamp

As a result of this, the “online-marketing market” is a scam-ridden, overhyped, bold-red-letters-flooded swamp of bullshit and misinformation. Anyone encountering this market for the first time is likely to A) get sucked into it instantly by all the hype, get into some program before knowing anything about it (“Hey, I’ll be making millions by the end of the week! I can’t risk not trying this!”) and probably end up regretting it or B) instantly dismiss it.

That’s too bad, really, because there is an actual market here, a diamond, so to speak, somewhere in this humongous pile of dung. There really are people making money with online marketing and there really are guides and programs that can help you get into online marketing. Perhaps some of them even have the capacity to make you rich quickly, but how would you ever find them among all the crap?

Well, soon enough, you’ll find them right here. I can’t tell the good from the bad products by just looking at them, either, so I will just have to try them all. I will tell you exactly what the products I test are about, whether they are worth your time and money and, most importantly, whether they will really help you generate some income or not. And believe me, I will call out the bad apples. I will call them out and I will enjoy it.
