Guru Popcorn: AffiliateDotCom

Another “big launch” is upon us and so it’s time for another installment of Guru Popcorn! This time around, Mike Filsaime and Chris Farrell are going to woo us with four videos and then ask for $2.000 (probably). What’s the product? AffiliateDotCom is apparently what they’re going to name it. Which is weird. Since Filsaime is the self-proclaimed “software-as-a-service” guy, I’m actually wondering whether this really is going to be a $2.000 info product or whether it’s going to be some type of membership or service. Would be a nice change for sure.

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, watch the first AffiliateDotCom video here and then watch my (brilliant) analysis of it below.

Otherwise, watch my brilliant analysis right away:

As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Cheers,

Shane

IM newbie - August 20, 2010

To be honest, I am pretty sick of all this big launches…

It is starting to be a big waste of time… but I am still watching them as it is a good way to learn how good marketing is done.

In the third video Chris shows how he creates a facebook group and get it to 900 members in 13 days. That’s great, but I was also named Chris Ferrel I probably could do the same thing.

The thing is that a total newbie to affiliate and internet marketing probably wouldn’t be able to create such a big group is such a short time and it is disappointing to me that there are not showing stuff that will actually help newbies like building such a group with a regular dude facebook account…

What do you think?

    Thanks for your comment!

I agree that it’s silly of Chris to have created the group on the topic of IM – the thing he’s best known for. He should have gone with the cake toppings one. ^^

On the other hand, I invite you to look at the big picture: Chris has been doing this for just 2 years.
If you play your cards right, you can be doing your own million dollar launch within two years of starting with IM. Most people online never take a long view like that, but I believe they should.

Hey Shane,

What a refreshing kind of review of the latest big launch that was send upon us and I couldn´t agree no more to what you´ve said about their re-labeling old or should I rather say proven concepts of affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing 1.0 is certainly not dead but I have to agree with them that outlined model is much more preferable.

I also agree with you that their launch had some pretty awesome marketing techniques in work and that it is definitely worth watching (or was, as “the doors are now opened”)these to guys in action. Their videos are state-of-the-art although if you´ve seen the video boss Andy you certainly know who´s set the bench mark :-)

Anyway, awesome and indepth review video you´ve created and I am happy that I´ve stumbled accross your website and your person today.

Have a good one

Mirko

    Hey Mirko,

Thanks for leaving a comment! Good to meet more people who like to analyze and pry apart these launches. It’s a great learning experience and it’s also fun, in my opinion. :)

Hey Shane.

Liked your amusing comment about the awkwardness of them standing together in the first video. For me the thing that made me chuckle was Chris Ferrel’s repeated pronunciation of the word ‘math’ (video 4 he goes to town).

Very, very odd for a Brit to say ‘math’ instead of ‘maths’. Probably the equivalent would be an American interspersing every other sentence with ‘crikey’ or ‘bloody hell’. Just plain weird.

Cheers,

Ed

Shane,

It is great that you are doing these popcorn videos!

It is very clever marketing as such and also very manipulative. I think most of these guys have taken several courses in NLP, Frank Kern I know has it for sure.

I started following Chris Farrell when he started and I must say he has always been very helpful and responsive. His tutorials are good and to the point.

I was very surprised when he went this road with Filsaime. The price tag was also very high compared to his membership site at 27 $ per month including hosting.

I could not agree more with the comments of him creating a Facebook group within IM.

As such it is nice to rename the old expressions like listbuilding, money is in the list (it is not btw) which one has heard too many times so become sick of it but the price tag was too high.

I also agree with you that you should take a long view with your internet business – at least 2 years but preferably more.

Many newbies are getting into it to make some cash they desperately need and I am afraid it will never work.

Best wishes
