Membership sites or continuity programs (same thing) are very popular among Internet marketers. In certain circles it’s almost mandatory to have some type of continuity program to add as an upsell to whatever the latest product is, that you’re launching. And of course, there are also tons of product about how you can get incredibly rich by creating membership sites.

But among all the noise, what is actual fact, when it comes to the membership site model? To find out, I decided to create a survey.

Here are the results:

Survey Results Video

Some very essential things to keep in mind, when it comes to creating and distributing your own info-content, me thinks. Then, there’s one more thing:

The Membership Model Lie

When you look at how-to-make-money-with-membership-sites type products, there’s always one big fat lie they perpetuate and that’s the idea of never-ending payments from each member. Inevitably, these products will have some bogus calculation on the sales-page, showing how much money you can be making if, say, 100 new members join the site every month. After a year, that’s 1200 paying members, right? And it just keeps getting better!

Except that it doesn’t, of course, because no one stays a member forever.

In fact, what you need to consider with any type of product, product line or membership is the customer lifetime value.

If you have a series of products for 50 bucks each and your average customer buys 2 of them, then you’re looking at a customer lifetime value of $100.
If you have a membership site for $30/month and on average, each member stays for three months, you’re looking at a customer lifetime value of $90.

That’s the reality of a membership site. You’ll have a certain, average “stick rate” and with it a certain total average income from each new member. The income is simply spread out over a longer period of time.

Membership Pros

Having said that, there are also some advantages to the membership site model, if it’s done right, as mentioned in the video.

From a marketer’s perspective, I’d say an info- and community-based membership makes sense as an addition to a product range, because you can win over the smaller segment in a market that actually prefers this model over the one-time payment model. It’s probably best placed as a back-end offer, rather than an upfront offer. And most vitally, you need to really take care of the members, keep the site fresh and relevant and not join the ranks of sites that end up being a disappointment for it’s customers.

All the best,

In today’s episode of Guru Popcorn, I take a close look at the first pre-launch video for Kajabi, a tricked-out media/product/membership platform. There’s a lot of interesting stuff going on in the video and with the marketing of Kajabi in general. To everyone’s great relief, this might just turn out to be “not your average product launch” (because, let’s be honest: we’re getting tired of those…).

Check out the video below to see my take on the clever marketing tactics used in this launch.

If you haven’t seen the pre-launch video for Kajabi yet, click here to watch that first.

Kajabi Guru Popcorn Video

What I failed to mention in the video, even though I meant to, was how incredibly good Andy Jenkins is with narration. He’s a guy who can practically speak on two tracks at the same time: He can say one thing with his words and use tone and rythm to say something else. Reminds me that I want to work on my own speech skills.

Also: Sorry for saying “clever” about 200 times in my video…

Leave a comment below and let me know what your thoughts about this launch are! Do you agree with my views of Kajabi? Or do you think I was too much “under the influence” of the marketing message, because I’m actually interested in this product?

Cheers,

How long have you been in the Internet marketing game? Can you remember what it was like when you first started out? For me, it wasn’t too long ago that I was completely oblivious to this whole “make money online” world. I already had experience with offline businesses and I even had two ecommerce/online shop sites, but I was totally clueless about everything that relates to Internet marketing as we know it. I didn’t know the first thing about search engines, I didn’t know about blogging or WordPress, I didn’t know how to create a website or even a simple web-page, I didn’t know about hosting and domains and affiliate programs or anything like that.

As I was thinking abou this, I decided to make a video containing as much useful and essential information about making money online as possible, aimed at a complete beginner (basically me, a year ago). I wanted to keep it short and to the point (attention spans are short, these days), so there could only be a very limited amount of information in the video. I had to cut it down to what I believe are the most important things a newbie needs to hear.

Here’s the result and I’d love to know what you think about it:

In case you’re interested, here’s the link to the report mentioned in the video.

So, what do you think? Is this a good place to start, for a newbie? Would you (will you) recommend this to beginners who ask you about how to make money online?

Let me know in the comments!

How can I make money online, fast? This question, or similar questions, have been popping up in my inbox occasionally. And go to any online marketing forum and you’ll doubtless see a couple of threads on this topic, as well. It seems that a lot of people get initially interested in online marketing because they are in a financial pinch and hope the Internet can get them out of it.

Below is a video in which I talk about two methods for making almost guaranteed, and fast, income online.

Don’t worry, though. This is still RQR and therefore still a hype-free zone. Video may not be quite what you expect, however…

As stated in the video, I believe in building long-term businesses online and I also believe that chasing quick cash will actually keep you poor, in the long term.

Expanding on what I said in the video, there is perhaps one way to make money that comes a little closer to most people’s “get rich quick” fantasies: Start with something you’re already good at. Maybe there is something among your skill set that can be turned into a product. If you can do that, that might be one of the quickest ways to get started. However, before you have a serious business, you’ll still need to learn all the basics like keyword research, market research, how to build a website, how to promote a website, how to create compelling offers, etc.

Let me know what you think of my video? Good advice in your opinion? Or would you have made different suggestions? I’d like to get your input on this.

Cheers,

If you’re on any Internet marketing mailing lists, then you’ve almost certainly received at least one offer for an “Offline Gold” type of product. It seems that everyone’s promoting one of those, lately. The premise of these products can be summarized as follows: Find small to medium local businesses with crappy websites and offer them your services for doing some SEO, website optimization, setting up forms for lead-capture etc. In other words: Bring your online marketing skills offline and charge a premium fee for it.

Sounds like a great plan, right? I made a video in which I’m being a total spoil-sport talking about some of the real-life implications of starting a web design and optimization service like this. I also offer some useful advice for anyone who wants to give this method a try.

Video 1: Overview

In this video, I give you an inside peek at the WA members area and walk you through the main features.

Video 2: Review

In the second video, I offer a conclusion and review of Wealthy Affiliate. I actually spend most of the time on video complaining about what I don’t like about WA, but that’s not to say that I completely dislike it.

And that’s it for this round of videos. For more detail, please check out my written review. If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know in the comments and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Step 1: You watch the video below, in which Gary Vaynerchuk says a lot of awesome things, then makes a huge blunder and then says some more awesome things.

Step 2: Watch the next video, below the first one, where I rant about how incredibly wrong Gary was with his statements about Internet marketing.

My Response

–

Some Important Points

First of all, in my video it almost comes off as if I’m saying all offline businesses or all big corporate businesses are unethical. That wasn’t my intention, of course.

My point is simply that there are unethical businesses and ethical businesses, online as well as off. Likewise, there “good” marketing and marketing that “just isn’t right” as Gary puts it. And this is also true online as well as offline.

Note that I’m not saying all Internet marketing is good and holy. There’s a lot of spammy and scammy marketing going on, online. And unfortunately, the spammiest marketers are usually the most prevalent, the ones you encounter most often and the ones that you get annoyed by the most frequently.

Internet marketing as a whole is no better and no worse than non-Internet marketing. However, a large portion of online marketing consists of individuals or small groups that are very busy producing great value for free and building lasting relationships with relatively small groups of customers. And if more people get involved in this type of marketing and the paradigm shifts ever further in that direction, then that’s clearly a blessing for everyone involved.

At least, that’s my take on this. What do you think?

Step 4: Tell me what you think in the comments below.

Cheers,

Once again, I have a rather extensive collection of videos that I proudly present all in one post (a.k.a. Massive Video Post). This time, it’s all about Web2Mayhem, a new all-in-one SEO and website promotion system that aims to out-do SEnuke, BruteForce SEO Evo II and the likes. I’m working on a review of Web2Mayhem and you’ll find it published on this very blog in just a short little while. Until then, check out the videos below to learn about each and every feature W2M offers as well as get all kinds of details and insider info on all it’s aspects.

Below, you find all the videos embedded along with a short description for each clip. Enjoy!

Video 1: Overview of All the W2M Features

As the title says, in this video I run through all of the features included in Web2Mayhem. These features include an automatic account creator, an RSS submitter, an article submitter, a social bookmarking tool, a video distribution tool, a tool that automatically posts to a whole series of free blogging platforms and a PAD (shareware/freeware) submitter.
There is also a blog network, a link-exchange system and a bunch of keyword research tools that you get access to when you sign up.

NOTE: Shortly after I finished the video, a new submission tool for podcasts was added.

Video 2: The Automatic Account Creation in Action

In this video, I demonstrate the semi-automatic account creation process. You’ll see exactly how the program is set up and what steps it goes through to create your accounts. What’s particularly interesting about this feature is that (where applicable), Web2Mayhem will upload a profile picture and a personal bio to your accounts, which instantly makes them look much more appealing and “real”.

Video 3: Automatic Article Submission in Progress

In this video, I do a “live” screencast of the automatic submission process. I chose to do a submission to the free blogging platforms since that’s a relatively short list and watching the run doesn’t get too boring. Submissions to the article directories are handled in the exact same way, as are other types of submissions.

Video 4: Content Spinner

One of the downloadable tools in Web2Mayhem is the Content Spinner. In this video, I give a quick demonstration of how this little program can make article spinning a bit easier and quicker than if you do it manually. Even though I’m not much of a “spinner”, I think this is a nice addition to W2M.

Video 5: Link Exchange System

This video goes into a little more detail on how the link-exchange system in Web2Mayhem works. Definitely worth taking a look at, as this system is perhaps the easiest way of getting a few targeted backlinks that I’ve ever seen.

Video 6: Syndicate Kahuna

The Syndicate Kahuna is a blog network that you can plug into as a member of Web2Mayhem. It offers a further possibility for distributing your articles and has a lot of potential. However, it hasn’t really been working for me and in the video, I explain what I believe the big problem with this system is.

Video 7: Web 2.0 Co-op

This video is about the so-called Web 2.0 Coop service in W2M. This is a very interesting feature that allows W2M users to exchange “jobs” on social media sites with each other. For example, you can give diggs, thumbs-up and ratings to other users’ content on Web 2.0 sites and in return get the same kind of mini-promotion from them for your content. I really like how this is set up in a way that it can’t be abused for spamming purposes.

Video 8: Web Page Analyzer

This video is about the Web Page Analyzer, an on-page SEO analysis tool that you can also download and use as a Web2Mayhem member. This program can give you some feedback on how your on-page factors like title-tags, meta keywords and keyword density are faring compared to the top listed pages for your targeted keyword.

And that’s it for another video post. As you can see, I didn’t make separate videos for each of the features in W2M. That would have simply been too much. Instead, I tried to give an overview in the first video and then pick out some essential and interesting features to make separate videos for.

If you have any further questions about Web2Mayhem, ask away in the comments section. Also: Watch this space for a link to my soon-to-be-published full review of W2M.

Cheers,

This is just a quick update:

Although I already have a video on my About RichQuickReview page, I decided to make another one. I took a slightly different approach this time and decided to do a “live” screencast where I show exactly what the problem with most Internet marketing “review” sites is and why I call the posts you find there “airquotes-reviews”.

Here’s the new video:

I’d love to know what you think of this.

Not sure yet, if I’ll replace the existing video or put this one somewhere else. I’m still not 100% satisfied with the result, so I think I’ll just keep making “About RQR” videos periodically until I’m fully satisfied.

Cheers,

P.S.: Some big updates are under way. I’m currently reviewing Web2Mayhem and you can see some of my videos on my YouTube channel already.
