Hi Rolf,

Thanks for your comment!
Yes, the ultimate goal of Google (and any search engine for that matter) is to display real, relevant results, meaning that they would only pay attention to sites where humans hang out and take an interest. The reality of search engines in 2010 is very, very far away from that, though.

If you want to syndicate your content to for people and click-through traffic, you don't need to look further than Ezinearticles, Articlesbase and Goarticles (compare their Alexa rankings to all the other directories for a rough idea). And I'd recommend you take it a bit further: Look into blog commenting and having your content syndicated to authority sites in your niche. There are often great opportunities that are less obvious than the article directories.

Shane,

Very interesting presentation indeed!

I could not agree more about the penalty myth.

I especially liked the point you made about posting 100 spun articles on your own blog. That really made it perfectly clear.

I have a software for spinning which works perhaps a bit differently: you write yourself each sentence in 3 - 5 ways or more.

Then the software takes these sentences in the correct order and produces "unique" articles.

They will all make perfect sense and the logic will preserved since you wrote it yourself.

But why bother really?

The only point might be that some directories are looking for new content meaning which has not been published before anywhere. Of course because of the news value.

Try and sell yesterday's news to CNN and you might get a free lesson about it.

Is there any idea at all to submit articles to directories?

In my opinion there is ONE, namely Real Human Beings spending time and reading them or downloading them.

I don't care if they have a high page rank or not as long as there are humans reading my articles causing them to come to my site.

Isn't this what Google Caffeine is about? Sites where Real Humans spend time and interact are going to be ranked higher.

So now I want to know how I can find out if there are directories where people hang out, how often and how long, their demographics and so on?

Then I will decide where I send my articles and I will not bother to spin them except when they are rejected as "published before = duplicate content".

I wrote some more about this at my Tobri blog giving some further reasons why this duplicate content is complete rubbish. There is even a link to a guy from Google explaining this. There is nothing for sale there so go take a look at it.

Now I am off to watch some more videos, I really like your stuff!

Best wishes
Rolf

Hello Timur,

Thanks for your comments. Google does index duplicate pages, it simply omits the duplicates from the results.
And I want to be clear about one thing: I'm not against article spinning completely. I'm against bad article spinning that produces unreadable crap (I've seen too much of this kind of thing. What I hope people take away from my videos is:
1) How to do spinning properly
and
2) Realizing that it's better not to spin at all than to spin badly and that you don't have to spin, necessarily.
-
The program in the videos is Article Submission Helper.
Cheers,
Shane

Hello Shane,

It seems to me that you don't understand the concept of article spinning.

1. Duplicate content penalty:

If you submit 100 versions of the same article to 100 article directories, only 1 article is going to be indexed by google.
The other 99 are still there, but are not being indexed by google, this is called duplicate content penalty.

2. If i spin a article and get 100 unique articles, i can then submit all 100 articles to 100 article directories which will all be indexed by google.

If you place 2 anchor text links to your website or blog in the author box, you are then going to get 200 linkbacks from pages that have all been indexed by google.

Now the anchor text from your links is going to boost your position in the search engines which will ultimatley increase your targeted traffic.

Can you please let me know your opinion to this as i have been doing this for years with a lot of success.

Kind Regards
Timur

Thanks Shane for your tireless efforts in producing the videos. I am new at all this so I don't have any experience with article spinning. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your comments which have helped me to better understand what is the best approach to take regarding article marketing. And besides you have saved me some cash!
