What is IM Impact All About?
IM Impact is about Internet marketing.
Forget, for a second, everything you associate with the term “Internet marketing” (or “online marketing”). Forget about the hype and the promises of push-button money, forget about the screaming red headlines, forget about the overblown 3-thousand dollar products, forget about all the alpha male ape marketing antics and all of the “guru this” and “guru that” talk. And instead, just take a step back and look at what Internet marketing really means:
Marketing: The art and science of positioning a product, person or brand in a very deliberate way, to a very specific group of people.
and…
Internet: This totally magical thing that has completely transformed our lives and that no one really understands yet, which also happens to offer countless excellent opportunities as a medium for marketing.
That’s what IM Impact is about.
Sometimes, I write product reviews, sometimes I write a lot about SEO and link-building, sometimes I go on about marketing fundamentals and marketing psychology, sometimes I rant about all the crap in the IM niche, but whatever my current vibe is: IM Impact is always, fundamentally, about doing real marketing on the Internet. No hype, no crap, no hard-selling.
Who is Shane Melaugh?
That’s me, I’m the guy writing all of the posts and recording all of the videos you see on this site. Although I’m half Irish (that’s where I have the name and the relative mastery of the English language from – thanks, Dad!), I live and grew up in Switzerland.
Since my late teens, I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur and build my own businesses. You know how, in the biographies of highly successful business people, you often learn how they used to be super business-savvy, even at a young age and how they were making lots more than their pocket-money through various ingenious undertakings, as little kids?
Yeah, I wasn’t like that at all.
None of my early businesses ever really took off and most of them never even left the drawing board. I did manage to set myself up selling computers and computer hardware, starting in 2006 and this was the first venture that (more or less) paid the bills on a (more or less) regular basis.
It wasn’t until I started taking marketing seriously and started moving towards creating and monetizing websites as well as creating and selling information products and software applications that I started seeing real success. Since sometime in 2009, I’ve “found my groove” and have been expanding my online business rapidly.
How’s all this relevant to you?
This is not a wannabe site created by someone who hopes to make a few bucks through affiliate links (although I do use affiliate links throughout the site). Internet marketing is what I do for a living. And writing about it, creating videos about it and generally teaching it is something I enjoy greatly.
